Altenbürener Steinberg nature reserve

The Altenbürener Steinberg nature reserve with a size of 23.06 hectares is located southwest of Altenbüren in the Brilon urban area and extends to the border with the Olsberg urban area . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau . In the Olsberg urban area, the adjacent area with diabase belongs to the Holzerner Peter nature reserve .

Area description

The NSG is the east end of a Diabas mountain range . In the NSG there are rocks up to six meters high. In the NSG there are predominantly oaks , furthermore red beech , sycamore maple and mountain ash are mixed in.

Protection purpose

The forest area is to be protected in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
