The nature reserve Ammertenbühl with a size of 2.8  hectares is located southeast of Brilon . The Ammertenbühl was designated as a landscape protection area as early as 1938 with the Drübel area. The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau . It is one of 31 nature reserves in Brilon, which belong to the group of limestone peaks with special prohibitions. The NSG is also part of the FFH area Kalkkuppen near Brilon (DE 4617-303).

Area description

The NSG is about 100 m from the Brilons settlement area. Cliffs up to 8 m high emerge. The NSG is covered by forest. It is a beech forest . There is a high proportion of maple in the tree population .

Protection purpose

Protection of the species-rich beech forest in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
