Bear Cave Cliffs Nature Reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Bärenhohlklippen with a size of 5.7  hectares is located southeast of Rösenbeck in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is the north-facing slope to the Hoppecke in this area. In the slope there are small limestone rocks and rubble heaps . The western entrance to the Beringhäuser Tunnel of the Upper Ruhr Valley Railway is located in the NSG . The slope is covered with deciduous trees.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the slope with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
