The Halle nature reserve with a size of 3.69 hectares is located east of Wülfte in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau . It is one of 31 nature reserves in Brilon which belongs to the group of limestone peaks with special prohibitions.

Area description

The NSG is an area on Hallerkamp . just a red beech forest are grassland areas in the NSG. On a limestone band in the central area, the rock emerges about 250 m openly. Here lies a narrow, ravine-like beech forest, which is surrounded by spruce forest. The ravine forest-like beech forest is rich in shrubs and in the south rich in woody forests. Above the rocks there is a small lawn on the hilltop . Intensely used, structurally poor grassland surrounds the area. Typical moss and fern vegetation is present on the ledge that slopes to the southwest. Parts of the rocks are densely overgrown with bushes. The small, poor grassland exposed to the south grows on a former excavation area and is bordered in the west by hawthorn and blackthorn bushes. The poor pasture formerly adjacent to the poor grassland has been ruderalized. There is a large eutrophication site, excavated earth and rubble here.

Protection purpose

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.

Prohibitions

In addition to the normal prohibitions in nature reserves, the NSG Halle, like the other 31 limestone peaks, has additional prohibitions. It is forbidden to fertilize, roll and drag the Brilon limestone peaks. No more than two livestock units per hectare may graze at the same time. Furthermore, mowing is only permitted from July 1st of each year.
