The Königswiese nature reserve with a size of 20.9 hectares is located southwest of Thülen in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The Feldberg nature reserve (Brilon, HSK-211) is directly adjacent to the northwest .

Area description

The NSG is a grassland area. Furthermore, in a wet meadow rich in sedge and rushes, on the eastern edge of the NSG there is a source area with numerous seepage springs from the Schwelge stream . In the NSG there is also the 770 m long course of the Schwelge stream and the Schwalgloch on the western edge of the NSG where the stream disappears.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland and its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.

Commandments

As an additional requirement, compared to other protected areas in the landscape plan area, it was stipulated that arable land in the NSG should be converted back into grassland and the Christmas tree culture in the area should also be converted into grassland.
