White woman / Rösenbecker Burg nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The white woman / Rösenbecker Burg nature reserve with a size of 88.4  hectares is located southeast of Rösenbeck in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The NSG and the nature reserve An der Rösenbecker Burg form the FFH area beech forests and rubble dumps on the “White Woman” (DE 4518-303).

Area description

The NSG is the Kalkkuppe White Woman and the Diabaskuppe Auf der Burg . The tops are mostly covered with beech . The deciduous trees are partly of poor growth, as the mountains have only a small amount of soil. Rocks emerge in several places. The rocks are up to 10 m high. There are abandoned quarries in the NSG. On the hilltop On the castle there are foundations of the east castle of Altenfils Castle . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the two mountain tops with their inventory of species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
