The Obere Trift nature reserve with a size of 24.8  hectares is located northwest of Radlinghausen in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The entire NSG belongs to the FFH area Forests and Sources of the Almetal (DE 4518-303).

Area description

The NSG is a red beech forest with limestone rocks. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the beech forest with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
