Area description

The NSG is a forest with limestone rocks on the Poppenberg . In the west there is a ledge up to 8 m high. In the south there are rocks 2 to 3 m high. In the north there is a small canyon forest , which is mostly planted with maple . The rest of the NSG is planted with red beech and red spruce . In the southern part there are several old pingen ( open- cast mine).

Protection purpose

In the NSG, this forest area with its rocks and species inventory is to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
