Schwarzes Haupt nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Schwarzes Haupt with a size of 9.8  hectares is located west of Rösenbeck in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The NSG belongs largely to the FFH area Kalkkuppen near Brilon (DE 4617-303). In the east, the NSG borders directly on the K 61.

Area description

The NSG consists of parts of the south and north exposed slopes of the Schwarze Haupt mountain . In the NSG there is grassland and forest. The grassland also includes small-scale, very species-rich relics of grasslands . A meager lawn in the south is interspersed with anthills and divided by a few stone piles is grazed by a flock of migrating sheep. The forest is red beech forest . In the south of it there is still a small quarry. Smaller cliffs also rise up, the mossy rock walls of which point to the northwest. In the western part of the area there is a beech forest with a small cliff, which is covered with typical small fern and moss vegetation.

Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. A mass population of carnation summer avens with 1999 320 specimens is on a fallow land .

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect forests and grassland with their inventory of species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
