from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sticklenberg / Schwarze Haupt nature reserve with a size of 68.4  hectares is located north and west of Messinghausen in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The NSG belongs largely to the FFH area Kalkkuppen near Brilon (DE 4617-303). The K 61 road cuts through the area. The NSG goes up to the settlement area of Messinghausen.

Area description

The NSG is the south-facing slope of the Sticklenberg and parts of the south-facing slope of the Schwarze Haupt mountain . In the NSG there is only grassland and forest. Grassland also includes grasslands . The forest is partly coppice , other beech forest and a red spruce stand . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. The rare plant species are found in the brisket-fescue-calcareous lawn, the limestone cliffs with crevice vegetation, in the orchid-limestone-beech forest and in the woodruff-beech forest.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect forests and grassland with their inventory of species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
