Feldberg nature reserve (Brilon, HSK-512)
The Feldberg nature reserve (identification HSK-512 ) with a size of 1.74 ha is located southwest of Thülen in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau . It is one of 31 nature reserves in Brilon, which belong to the group of limestone peaks with special prohibitions. To the east is the Feldberg nature reserve (Brilon, HSK-211) with a size of 5.1 hectares, and to the south-east the Königswiese nature reserve also borders the NSG. These two were designated as NSG by the district in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . In the databases of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia (LANUV) and Federal Office for Nature Conservation (BfN), this NSG is listed under the Feldberg nature reserve <NSG of the Kalkkuppen group> <LP Briloner Hochflaeche> (identification HSK-512) .
Area description
The NSG is the Feldberg hilltop . In the NSG there is only grassland with groups of trees; this also includes grassland . In the center of the NSG there is a typical lean grass area. The poor grassland areas in the west of the area are still of value. Here, however, plant species with leanness indicators only occur marginally. In this area, high proportions of thistles and knuckleweed shape the stand. There is a hut and a barn in the area. The multi-stemmed beeches that stand in groups on the hilltop are a special feature. The area is the feeding habitat of the red kite. The NSG is one of the high-quality nature conservation areas in the grassland in the Feldberg - Königswiese - Schaaken open land area with the NSGs there.
Protection purpose
Protection of the lean grassland. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
Prohibitions
In addition to the normal prohibitions in nature reserves, the NSG Feldberg and the other 30 Brilon limestone peaks have additional prohibitions. It is forbidden to fertilize, roll and drag the limestone peaks. No more than two livestock units per hectare may graze at the same time. Furthermore, mowing is only permitted from July 1st of each year.
