The Aabachtal nature reserve with a size of 71.6 hectares is located northeast of Madfeld in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The NSG is part of the FFH area Bredelar Forest Reserve and Marsberg City Forest (DE 4518-305).

Area description

The NSG is the course of the Aabach from the Madfeld sewage treatment plant to the border with the Paderborn district and seven tributaries. In addition to the streams, the Bachaue is part of the NSG. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the valley system of the Aabach with tributaries and their inventory of species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
