The Frehnershohl nature reserve with a size of 2.63  hectares is located southwest of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is a forest area with its species-rich biotope mosaic consisting of spring and brook habitats. There are several seepage springs in the area. Sometimes there are spring troughs up to 5 m deep in the slope embankment. There are Roterlenauwald and Eschenauwald along the creek . Sycamore maples , red beeches and red spruces also grow in NSG .

Protection purpose

In the NSG, the forest area with its species-rich biotope mosaic consisting of spring and brook habitats is to be protected with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
