The nature reserve Vor'm Hängeberg with a size of 2.5 hectares is located north of Gudenhagen in the urban area of Brilon an der Landstrasse. The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . Most of it lies in a hairpin bend on federal highway 251 .
Area description
The NSG is a grassland area. The grassland is partly wet and wet grassland. Endangered plant species occur in the area. The NSG is grazed with cattle.
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
Conservation measures
The NSG was largely bought by the Association for Nature and Bird Protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis (VNV) in order to graze it extensively. In the winter of 2013/2013, trees and bushes were cut down on a large scale in the area. In April 2013, this wood material was chopped up by a forestry chopper. The chopped material was sent to the town of Brilon for the wood chip heating system.
