The Wünnenbecke nature reserve with a size of 134.86  hectares is located north of Scharfenberg in the city of Brilon and lies in the north on the border with the Soest district . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau . The eastern border of the NSG forms the nature reserve Upper Möhnetal (Brilon) .

Area description

The NSG is a forest area with many streams and alder forests. In the NSG there are also red beech and red spruce forests .

Protection purpose

The alder forests are to be protected in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
