Meilfesknapp nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Meilfesknapp nature reserve with a size of 8.44  hectares is located east of Alme in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is the Meilfesknapp hilltop . The upper mountain top is occupied by the beech forest . A limestone band stretches over the top. This ledge drops down to 8 m to the north. The rocks are very rich in moss. There are poor pastures on the northern and eastern slopes. There are three old limestone quarries that look like quarries.

Protection purpose

In the NSG, the local biotope mosaic consisting of beech forest, poor pastures and former excavations should protect. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
