Schwelge / Wolfsknapp nature reserve
The nature reserve Schwelge / Wolfsknapp with a size of 4.9 hectares is located south of Bleireinigung in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . It is surrounded by the Fauler Bruch / Hemmeker Bruch nature reserve .
Area description
The NSG area is taken up by grassland and some forest. The grassland is partly poor grass . A nameless stream disappears in a Schwalgloch in the NSG. This stream rises in the nature reserve Hemmeker break and then flows through the protected landscape Lazy break / Hemmeker break around the nature reserve Revel / Wolf Knapp reach. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect grassland and Schwelge with their species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
