Erhard Fischer (* 1952 ) is a German educator . Since 2001 he has been professor at the Institute for Special Education at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Fischer studied special education for teaching in Koblenz and Mainz and graduated with a teaching qualification in education for the mentally handicapped, behavioral handicapped and language handicapped education. This was followed by a teaching position at the "State School for the Blind and Visually Impaired" in Neuwied from 1980 to 1983. A degree in educational sciences , which was pursued in parallel, led Fischer to graduation as a qualified pedagogue.

After a temporary substitute for a professorship at the University of Education in Heidelberg , he worked at a school for people with intellectual disabilities . At the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg , Fischer received his doctorate in 1991 with a thesis on funding opportunities for pupils with multiple disabilities. In 2001 he completed his habilitation in Oldenburg. In August of the same year, Fischer accepted a professorship for mentally handicapped education at the Institute for Special Education at the University of Würzburg. Fischer still has this today.

Focus of work

Fischer has been involved in teacher training for many years, he is the editor of the specialist journal “Lern Konet” and the author of many specialist articles and books. He worked on the creation of curricula and was a member of the extended board of directors of the Würzburg "Center for Teacher Education". Various of his publications are regarded as subject-related standard works for training and work. His topics are life and learning under the conditions of a " mental handicap ", perception and sensory knowledge in (handicapped) children and adolescents, school pedagogy and school development , didactic and methodological issues of teaching in the specialization mental development, education and upbringing of students with severe and multiple disabilities , behavior problems in children and adolescents - aspects of understanding and helping and promoting children and adolescents with autistic behavior.
