Erhard Meier

Erhard Meier (born September 24, 1939 in Eberswalde , Brandenburg , Germany ) is an Austrian politician of the SPÖ of German origin.

Life

Erhard Meier came to Austria as a child, where he grew up in the Styrian town of Bad Aussee . Here he was a pupil at the elementary and secondary school until 1954 , before he graduated from the federal teacher training institute in Graz by 1959 . Erhard Meier then worked as a primary school teacher from 1959 and as a teacher at a secondary school from 1965. As part of a semester abroad, he also studied education from 1969 to 1970 at the Centenary College in Shreveport in the US state of Louisiana .

Shortly after his return from the USA, Meier was elected Deputy Mayor of Bad Aussee in 1970, who was to be elected mayor in 1975 until 1990. Meier then moved to Vienna in June 1990 as a member of the Federal Council until 2000. Then he retired into private life.

From January 1995 to November 1996 Erhard Meier was one of the first mandataries that Austria sent to the European Parliament .
