Erhard Pachaly

Erhard Pachaly (born September 15, 1934 in Dramburg , Pomerania , † March 31, 2012 in Hanover ) was a German historian.

Erhard Pachaly passed his Abitur in 1954 and then studied history, geography and education at the Humboldt University of Berlin (HUB). In 1959 he completed his studies and became a research assistant at the Marxism-Leninism Institute at the HUB. In October 1964 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Adolf von Harnack as a politician and scientific organizer of German imperialism from 1914 to 1920 under Eduard Winter and Othmar Feyl . In 1965 he became a research assistant at the University of the German People's Police in Berlin-Biesdorf , where he had been a lecturer in the history of the German labor movement since September 1968. In January 1980, he received his PhD B with a thesis on the development and the struggle of the party activity of the Communist Party of Germany in the former Buchenwald concentration camp , evaluators were Walter Bartel , Herbert Weidlich and Götz Dieckmann . From 1982 he taught as a full professor for the history of the German labor movement at the VP University. He achieved the rank of police colonel.

Pachaly was primarily concerned with the history of the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camps , and he was also the biographer of Adolf von Harnack .
