Eric Scott Melvin (born July 9, 1966 ) is the guitarist of the US punk band NOFX .

Melvin formed the band together with Fat Mike , the front man and bassist of NOFX, and drummer Erik Sandin in 1983 and has been playing the guitar since then. He and Fat Mike are the only NOFX members who have always played in the band to this day. Erik Sandin was replaced by Scott Aldahl for one year in 1986. In addition to the guitar, he also plays the accordion , as can be heard in the song Theme From a NOFX Album .

In the current NOFX line-up, Eric Melvin is the only member using his real name.

In addition to his career as a rock musician, he ran a coffee shop in his hometown of Los Angeles until 1998 , which was called "Melvin's".

Eric Melvin is also the representative for Fat Mike on tours of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes , for example on the 2007 European tour.

As a child, Eric Melvin was sexually harassed by the father of a schoolmate by inviting him into his apartment and getting Eric Melvin to completely undress, whereupon the man patted him and touched his genitals, which he let himself be insecure and silently endured . Only when Eric Melvin was in his mid-30s did he tell his mother about this traumatic experience after decades of silence.

Through his father, Eric Melvin received training in the South Korean martial art Tang Soo Do from around the age of nine , in the branch of a martial arts school chain from action actor Chuck Norris . Since Norris was friends with the martial arts actor Bruce Lee , the youth training group, which Melvin was part of, provided a show performance with punches and kicks as part of the premiere of a movie by Bruce Lee at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. When Eric Melvin was 19, he had a friend named Chelsea who became pregnant by him when he was 17. After both of them told their parents, with whom Melvin and Chelsea were still living at the time, the couple decided to have an abortion . Years later, Chelsea married another man and gave birth to three children, one of whom is a fan of NOFX. Before founding NOFX, Eric Melvin lived by the healthy principles of the Straight Edge Movement of not drinking alcohol, using drugs, and avoiding a promiscuous sex life. The drug-corroded punk scene in Los Angeles had been a most chilling effect on him as a young man in this regard. When Melvin went on tour with NOFX, his abstinent behavior changed, from his mid-20s he started drinking beer regularly, then he increasingly succumbed to the consumption of hard drugs such as cocaine, LSD, PCP (Angel Dust) , speed and a lot Grass . Eric Melvin developed a preference for hallucinogenic drugs .
