White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean is the fourth studio album by the band NOFX . It was released on November 5, 1992 on Epitaph Records .

history

Recorded on Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood , California in August 1992 , White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean was the first NOFX studio album not produced by Bad Religion 's Brett Gurewitz . The title, originally planned as White Trash, Two Kikes, and a Spic , has been changed to White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean . Both versions play politically incorrect and self-deprecatingly on the ethnic and religious backgrounds of the band members (Heebs = short for Hebrews, i.e. Jews, Bean = alludes to the Hispanic or Mexican roots of El Hefe ). Drummer Erik Sandin , who often called his bandmate Aaron "El Hefe" Abeyta by the nickname Bohnenfresser or Bohne , had drug problems before the recordings, so he was not doing well when the album was recorded. Some tracks, including Please Play This Song on the Radio, are used in Highway Heat (1994). The term white trash is an American slang expression relating to the white underclass. The lyrics to the song Bob are partially based on a homeless friend of the band named Bob Lush, a Korean with dreadlocks whose girlfriend worked as a prostitute so that the couple could buy drugs. Also, Bob Lush, who died of an overdose, was a member of the street gang Dog Patch Winos , which also included drummer Erik Sandin. In the official video clip for the song Stickin 'in My Eye you can see the uniform blue denim jacket with the US flag on the back that all members of the Dog Patch Winos wore. The ambiguous song Johnny Appleseed is about Erik Sandin's constant hunt for groupies on tour . El Hefe does not play the complicated trumpet melody towards the end of the piece Straight Edge on his real trumpet as in the other songs, in this case he imitates the trumpet with his voice.

Immediately after completing the recording in the studio, drummer Erik Sandin went to a rehab clinic called The Ranch in Desert Hot Springs for two months in the fall of 1992 to get rid of heroin. Since then, Sandin has been considered clean.

criticism

On the Allmusic site , the album received 4 out of 5 stars. The critic wrote the band "rips through much more than standard-issue thrash". ("... races through a lot more than the beating of an average publication".)
