Erich Kirchler

Erich Kirchler (born November 4, 1954 in Sand in Taufers ) is an Italian - Austrian psychologist and professor of business psychology at the University of Vienna .

His research activities concern various issues in work , organizational , market , consumer and economic psychology. The focus is primarily on tax psychology and money management in private households ( purchase and credit ). His contributions to tax behavior in Austria and Europe and to tax morale are both theoretically and practically relevant and are received in the international research community and in the tax administration of various countries.

Life

Kirchler began studying architecture at the Technical University in Vienna and, in 1974, studying psychology and human biology at the University of Vienna. He wrote his dissertation on the subject of "Changing a conceptual space through learning processes - a contribution to cognitive dynamics". Immediately after graduating in 1979, he worked as a university assistant at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz at the Institute for Education and Psychology. During this time he worked on his habilitation under the direction of Hermann Brandstätter . In 1989 he received the Venia Legendi for all psychology. This was followed by a position as an assistant professor at the same location. Since October 1992 he has been a professor for applied psychology, especially business psychology, at the University of Vienna. Since establishment of the Doctoral Program in International Business Taxation (DIBT) at the Vienna University of Economics , he has been a visiting professor .

Since 1992 he has held various functions, first at the Institute for Psychology, then at the Faculty of Psychology. Among other things, he was department head of the Applied and Clinical Psychology Working Group, (Deputy) Director of the Institute for Psychology, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Deputy Director of the Institute for Applied Psychology: Work, Education, Economy. He is currently the director of the Institute for Applied Psychology: Work, Education, Economy. During his time in Vienna, he received two appointments as full professor at the University of Cologne and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . As a visiting professor and lecturer, he also taught at other universities abroad.

For many years he worked as a consultant for social sciences at the Austrian Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF). He was also a member of the Austrian PR Ethics Council and President of the International Association for Research in Economic Psychology (IAREP), the Austrian Society for Psychology (ÖGPs) and Division 9 (Economic Psychology) of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) .

Editing

From 2010 to 2015, Kirchler was editor of the Journal of Economic Psychology together with Erik Hölzl (University of Cologne) . He is co-editor of the International Taxation Research Paper Series and a member of editorial boards and editorial boards of various journals.
