Erich Konrad (politician)

Erich Konrad (born April 4, 1910 in Berlin , † June 26, 1987 in Hanover ) was a member of the NSDAP and an officer in the Ordnungspolizei . After the end of the Second World War he was first a politician in the FDP , then in the CDU . From 1963 to 1970 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

After graduating from high school, Konrad entered the Prussian Police on April 1, 1930 as an officer candidate . He was with the Berlin police administration, most recently as a major in the gendarmerie . In 1934 he was promoted to lieutenant in Osnabrück .

He had been a member of the NSDAP since May 1, 1937 ( membership number 6,986,825). From May 1940 he was company chief in the Reserve Police Battalion 101 , from August 1941 with the unit in the "Osteinsatz". He was on duty in Police Battalion 101 at the same time that this unit was building the Lodz ghetto and taking part in the shooting of Polish “hostages”. Between August 1941 and June 1942 Konrad was seconded to Reserve Police Battalion 102. From June 1, 1942, he was with the Gendarmerie Linz. From May 18, 1943 he was commander of the police in action in Croatia (Agram-Zagreb). With effect from September 15, 1944, he was accepted as a Sturmbannführer , equivalent to a major in the Wehrmacht, in the leadership corps of the NSDAP's Schutzstaffel .

Konrad was the holder of the War Merit Cross II. Class with Swords, the medal in memory of October 1, 1938 and the political service award 3rd level.

After serving with the SS, he returned to Osnabrück in July 1945, where he did police service. In 1958 he was retired. After that he was self-employed in the private sector. Konrad was a member of the FDP since September 1953. He was chairman of the Osnabrück district association, the district association and, since January 1967, state treasurer.

He took on his first political tasks as a member of the Osnabrück City Council in October 1956, as a senator he was a member of the administrative committee and the finance committee, and also chairman of the slaughterhouse committee. Konrad was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament for the fifth and sixth electoral periods from May 20, 1963 to June 20, 1970. The most important office was secretary of the Lower Saxony State Parliament from June 12, 1963 to April 16, 1969 and again from April 24, 1969 to on June 20, 1970. He belonged to the FDP parliamentary group until April 16, 1969, after which he was non-attached . From April 22, 1969 he was a guest of the CDU parliamentary group and became a member of the CDU parliamentary group from November 5, 1969.
