from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erich Martensen (born November 5, 1927 in Schleswig ) is a German mathematician .

Martensen studied mathematics and physics in Kiel and Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1954 from the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel under Karl-Heinrich Weise ( determination of the deformable line element from differential invariants of the second and third order in normal coordinates ). In 1961 he qualified as a professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in applied mathematics . 1954 to 1963 he was a research associate at the Max Planck Society . In 1964 he became a full professor for mathematics at the TH Darmstadt and in 1972 he switched to a professor at the University of Karlsruhe .

He deals with applied analysis (including applications in geodesy ), potential theory , mathematical physics and numerical mathematics (e.g. numerical quadrature methods). He wrote an analysis textbook in four volumes.
