Erich Raddatz (born November 28, 1886 in Konikow , Köslin district , † February 16, 1964 in Berlin ), nicknamed " Papa Raddatz ", was a local politician in Berlin and a member of the Prussian state parliament.

Life

The trained locksmith settled in Berlin, where he joined the trade union in 1907 and the SPD in 1910 . After participating in the First World War , he joined the USPD in 1918 and began working as a civil servant in the Neukölln administration . A member of the KPD since 1920 , he was a member of the Neukölln BVV from 1920 to 1925, a city councilor in Neukölln from 1926 to 1930 and a member of the Berlin magistrate from 1928 to 1932 .

In June 1928, Raddatz replaced Wilhelm Pieck , who had previously waived his mandate, in the Prussian state parliament . He belonged to the state parliament until 1932 and represented constituency 3 (Potsdam II). In February 1930 he belonged to a group of 60 functionaries in the Berlin KPD who, in an open letter, criticized the politics of the party leadership around Ernst Thälmann and above all the social-fascism line. Excluded from the KPD, Raddatz, together with some other former KPD functionaries, founded the group of Independent Communists (60 excluded) , which joined the SPD in 1931. After the takeover of the NSDAP Raddatz lost his job in the civil service and worked as a shop clerk and later as a foreman in the metal industry.

After 1945, Raddatz rejoined the SPD and was appointed district councilor for social affairs in Neukölln by the American military authorities. Confirmed in office after the 1946 elections, he held this position until 1959, where he earned a high reputation and the nickname “ Papa Raddatz ”. After he retired from local government in 1959 for reasons of age, he was active as deputy state chairman of the workers' welfare in Berlin until his death .
