Erich Schaeder

Erich Schaeder (born December 22, 1861 in Clausthal , † February 18, 1936 in Berlin ) was a Protestant theologian .

Life

Schaeder studied Protestant theology in Berlin and Greifswald from 1881 to 1886 . There was Hermann Cremer , the head of the so-called. Greifswald school, his teacher. From 1887 to 1889 Schaeder was an inspector at Tholuckschen Konvikt in Halle (Saale) . In 1891 he became a private lecturer at the University of Greifswald and in 1894 associate professor at the Albertus University of Königsberg . On August 10, 1894, he married Anna Sellschopp (1867-1948), with whom he had six children. With that he became brother-in-law of Wilhelm Lütgert . In 1895 he moved to the Georg-August University of Göttingen as an associate professor . In 1899 he accepted the position as full professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 1909/10 he was its rector . In his rectorate speech on March 5, 1909, he dealt with theology and history .

In 1918 he moved to the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University in Breslau . In 1921/22 he also became its rector. He stayed in Breslau until his retirement . His students include Hans Joachim Iwand , Ernst Hornig and Jochen Klepper .

Erich Schaeder had been a member of the Wingolf student union in Berlin , Greifswald , Halle and Göttingen since 1883 .

The resistance fighter against National Socialism and church historian Hildegard Schaeder is a daughter of Schaeder. The orientalist and Iranist Hans Heinrich Schaeder is a son of Schaeder. The theologian and Islamic scholar Günter Lüling is a nephew of Schaeder.
