Erich Thiele (born May 3, 1906 ) is a former German soccer player.
Career
Thiele belonged to the VfB Leipzig , for which he was initially from 1935 to 1944 in the Gauliga Sachsen , in one of 16, later increased to 23 Gauligen at the time of National Socialism as the uniform top division in the German Reich . The last season before the end of World War II he played in season 1 of the Leipzig group , as one of four groups, the now divided Gauliga Sachsen. The best result was second place at the end of the 1938/39 season , one point behind Dresdner SC .
After VfB Leipzig was dissolved and expropriated by the Soviet occupying power in 1945, like all civil clubs, former VfB players founded the “SG Probstheida”, to which Thiele belonged until 1947, on their old sports grounds.
While he was a member of the club, he and the team took part in the competition for the Tschammer Cup, the cup competition for club teams introduced in 1935. In 1936 , with five goals in six games, he helped his team advance to the finals. He made his debut on June 28, 1936 in Gleiwitz in the 2-2 draw against Vorwärts-Rasensport Gleiwitz in the 2nd round , in which he was successful with one goal. Since no winner could be determined even after extra time , the match was repeated on August 23, from which the winner with VfB Leipzig - thanks to two goals from him - emerged 3-0.
He won the round of 16 with his team - as the only home team - 2-0 against Berliner SV 1892 , and in this game he also scored once. After he had also successfully contested the encounters with VfB Peine and Wormatia Worms in the quarter and semi-finals with 4: 2 and 5: 1, he moved into the final with VfB Leipzig.
The final, which only took place in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on January 3, 1937 , took place against last year's finalists FC Schalke 04 , with Fritz Szepan and Ernst Kuzorra in their ranks - and ended 2-1 for VfB Leipzig, with his teammates Jakob May and Herbert Gabriel put their team in the lead by scoring 1-0 in the 20th and 2-0 in the 31st minute; the Schalke Ernst Kalwitzki's goal in the 42nd minute was the only one in the remaining 48 minutes.
