Erich Alfred Johannes von Bibow (born June 24, 1873 in Gnesen ; † April 5, 1937 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf ) was a Prussian major in the reserve, entrepreneur, co-founder of the paramilitary right-wing Freikorps Lützow and legal knight of the Order of St. John .

Life

Erich von Bibow from the original Mecklenburg noble family of the von Bibow was born in Gniezno, then part of the Prussian-German province of Posen, as the son of an official. From around 1900 he was based in Berlin-Grunewald , later in Charlottenburg , and worked as an engineer and factory owner. In 1905 he married Helene Beckmann from Unna in Westphalia and served in the Berlin Guard Fusilier Regiment before and during the First World War .

He was dismissed as a reserve officer loyal to the monarchy and, together with Major Hans von Lützow, founded the right-wing paramilitary Freikorps Lützow, a reservoir for former German national soldiers. The association had its first use in the Berlin March fighting in 1919. It was disbanded a good year later after heavy losses in conflicts with the Red Ruhr Army during the Ruhr uprising in 1920.
