Erie is a place in Neosho County in southeast Kansas in the United States . At the 2000 census it had 1,211 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of Neosho County.
According to tradition, the place was created in 1866 by the merger of Old Erie, located northwest of the current center, and Crawfordsville, located to the south-east .
