Erik Dyreborg

Erik Birger Dyreborg (born Poulsen ; born January 20, 1940 in Copenhagen ; † November 12, 2013 ) was a Danish football player . The striker played as a professional for clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie , the US North American Soccer League and the Swedish Fotbollsallsvenskan ; he also came to six missions for the Danish national team .

Dyreborg began his career in the men's area in 1957 at BK Frem København ; after his first first division season he was hired by Manchester United at the age of 17 , but after a few months (Christmas 1957) weed out.

For the time being he remained an amateur in Denmark, where he moved to Næstved IF after a few years . He did not become professional until the 1968 season, when the Boston Beacons of the NASL signed him because of his goal danger; With 13 goals in 29 games, he was the club's top scorer, which, however, broke up in the fall of 1968 due to economic failure. Then he played for Den Haag and Avesta AIK .

National team

In 1957/58 he was a three-time U-19 national player and scored two goals, in 1960 he came to two appearances for the U-21.

During the preparation for the Olympic football tournament in 1960 , Dyreborg was invited as a U-21 player to the Danish senior national team's 32 screening course, but was not considered for the final squad. On the way to a preparation game, he narrowly escaped an aircraft accident that killed eight course participants. On June 16, 1960, a De Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide of the Danish Air Force crashed after take-off in Copenhagen with no survivors; Dyreborg only survived because, while he was already on the plane, a decision was made at short notice to transport luggage in his seat and he was dispatched to the parallel flight.

In 1963 he was called up for a game in the B-selection of Denmark, but it was not until 1967 before he made his debut in the A-selection; on his second appearance he scored his first two international goals against Iceland ; a few weeks later he defeated Norway (5-0) almost single-handedly with five goals . After only six appearances with eight goals, Dyreborg was excluded from the squad when he moved to the US for professionalism.
