Erik Orie (born January 25, 1968 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch football player and coach . For the 2019/20 season he took over the position of assistant coach at 1. FC Nürnberg .
Career
Orie started his career at VVV-Venlo and Elinkwijk Utrecht in his home country, the Netherlands. In 1993 he came to Austria for the first time and signed with FK Austria Wien , Orie played 15 times for Austria and scored eight goals. Via VfB Mödling and VSE St. Pölten , Orie came to England to FC Blackpool , from where he moved to Gela Calcio in Italy .
He later returned to Austria and played one season at ASK Kottingbrunn . In 1998 he joined FC Lustenau 07 as a player . After Orie had already been under contract as a player for Vorarlberg for four years , he became a player-coach for half a year in 2002 and then took over the team completely. During his time at FC Lustenau, he was a player-coach, manager, sports director and trainer. In 2007 he was named Vorarlberg's Trainer of the Year .
On March 17, 2009 Orie was released from FC Lustenau and replaced by Nenad Bjelica . On April 12, 2010, he took over as coach of FC Vaduz in the Swiss Challenge League as the successor to Pierre Littbarski . In 2010 he was voted Liechtenstein's coach of the year . Due to the negative sporting development in the 2011/2012 season, the contractual relationship that originally existed until summer 2013 was terminated.
In 2015 he was brought in to succeed Markus Mader at the Austrian fifth division club FC Langenegg , with whom he was promoted to the Vorarlberg League. After a year and a half, he left the club and took over FC Dornbirn, which played a class higher, from November until the end of the season .
In 2017 he accepted an offer to go to Greece as an assistant coach under the Austrian Damir Canadi and to work at Atromitos Athens . Twice he reached fourth place in the first division with the club . For the 2019/20 season he went to the 2nd Bundesliga with Canadi, relegated to 1. FC Nürnberg . In early November, Canadi and Orie were released when the team was in 11th place.
