Erik Thiele

Erik Thiele (born June 5, 1996 in Eilenburg ) is a German wrestler . He won a bronze medal in free style at the 2016 European Championships in the weight class up to 97 kg .

Career

Erik Thiele, the son of the 1995 vice world champion in super heavyweight freestyle wrestling, Sven Thiele , began wrestling at SV Braunsbedra as a teenager in 2002 . In the meantime he started for the KFC Leipzig and is now a police candidate after successfully completing his Abitur. He focuses on the free style. In the youth field he was the first German champion in free style in 2008 in youth C in the weight class up to 54 kg body weight. By 2015 he won eight more German championship titles in various weight classes in all junior classes (youth B, youth A, junior cadets and junior juniors).

He also soon won medals at international championships in the youth field. In 2012 he won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 85 kg at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Katowice. In 2013 he won bronze medals at both the Junior European Championships (Cadets) in Bar and the Junior European Championships (Juniors) in Skopje . Thrown back in 2014 due to a protracted injury, he made a successful comeback on the international wrestling mat in 2015, as he won the silver medal in the weight category up to 96 kg at the European Junior Championships in Istanbul .

In March 2016 he competed for the first time in the senior division at an international championship. He won the European Championships in Riga in the weight class up to 97 kg in free style with victories over Magomedgadschi Nurow, Macedonia and Nicolai Ceban , Moldova, a narrow point defeat in the semifinals against Ivan Jankowski from Belarus (2: 3) and a victory over Micheil Tsikovani from Greece a bronze medal.

Erik Thiele did not qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In September 2016, however, he was runner-up in the weight class up to 96 kg at the Junior World Championships in Macon.
