History and architecture

The Bärenstein, which originally belonged to the rule and parish of Schlettau, initially consisted of only a few farms. The Grünhain monastery bought the rule in 1413 and in 1453 the fief went to the Wettins . In 1517 a church was built in Weipert for the Bärenstein area. At the end of the Thirty Years' War the population increased by leaps and bounds due to the influx of exiles , so Elector Johann Georg I approved the construction of a church in the village in 1655. The superintendent laid the foundation stone on June 15, 1655, the residents performed manual and tensioning services, and the building timber was provided by the Annaberg City Council .

Ten days later, the pastor performed the first baptism recorded in the baptismal register of the new church. Since the church was still under construction, the “children [... initially] were baptized in the houses. Anno 1655 “received on June 25th Heinrich Rieß (son of the blacksmith Andreas Rieß), on October 7th Anna Schubarth (daughter of Hanns Schubarth junior), on November 16th Rosina Maria Ott (daughter of the blacksmith Caspar Ott), on 5th December Anna Maria Müller (daughter of Christian Müller from "Kühebergk"), on December 13th Esther Engelmann (daughter of the schoolmaster Thobias Engelmann) and on January 16, 1656 Georgius Seidel (son of Philipp Seidel) in their parents' houses. On February 7, 1656 “the first child [Maria Magdalena Rudolff] was baptized like this in the newly built church on Beerenstein, God gave this and following Christian, pious u. may become blissful. ”She was the daughter of the electoral Saxon tax collector“ am Berghäusel - Beerenstein ”Caspar Rudolff.

The baroque hall church stands over a symmetrical, rectangular floor plan and closes with three-eighths . The hipped roof rests on plastered masonry made of quarry stone. A special feature in the sacristy is the cell vault. The galleries were built in around 1698, and an organ was also purchased that year. A stylistic renovation took place in 1911 based on designs by the architect Woldemar Kandler . Further renovations took place in 1955 and 1993.

tower

According to the council files, the construction of a church tower was planned from 1729. Before that, there must have been a separate bell tower next to the church . A bell cast by Grand Master Daniel Hendel in 1687 has been preserved. The turret in its current form was probably built in 1746.

Facility

  • A life-size crucifix was purchased in 1700, which was destroyed by lightning in 1729 and re-donated in 1800.
  • The tower clock was installed at the beginning of the 18th century.
  • The pulpit altar dates from the end of the 18th century.
  • The Jehmlich company from Dresden installed a new organ .
