Life
The son of an actor had his first great success in 1854 with the comedy Une femme qui mord . He created many comedies, dramas , tragedies , vaudevilles , burlesques , farces and fairy tales as a result .
But he also worked as a journalist. He wrote articles for the feature section under the pseudonyms Ursus in the journal Le Rappel and Marcy at Le Charivari . He also wrote for Le Figaro and L'Écho de Paris . There, however, political articles that he published under his real name.
The forged memoirs of the then famous can -can dancer Marguerite Badel , who went by the stage name Rigolboche , created a stir, which he wrote together with Louis Huart in 1860 . In 1866 he published a collection of his writings and works, to which his longtime friend Henri Rochefort wrote the foreword.
When Paris was besieged in 1870 , he joined the resistance and became secretary at the Commission des barricades , for which he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor . As a patriot, he later also supported Boulangism .
Blum was well known to his contemporaries, but not popular with everyone. In 1872, Victor Koning wrote the novel Tout Paris , in which high society was targeted and Blum held the office of minister of culture. Furthermore, in 1891 he was attacked all in all, with other Jews, in the book Juifs et antisémites en Europe , which was subtitled "The Jews are the natural enemy of Christian Europe".
Ernest Blum is buried on the Pere Lachaise (7th Division).
