Ernest Guenther Award

The Ernest Guenther Award in the Chemistry of Natural Products is a scientific award given by the American Chemical Society (ACS) in the field of the chemistry of natural products . It honors outstanding successes in the field of analysis , structure elucidation and synthesis of natural substances - regardless of the age and nationality of the recipient . Independent thinking and originality should be given special consideration. In addition to the prize money of 6,000 US dollars (as of 2011), the winner receives a medal and a certificate.

The prize was donated in 1948 by Fritzsche, Dodge and Olcott Inc. on the occasion of the company's 75th anniversary as the Fritzsche Award in Essential Oils . Since 1969, the prize has been named after its former director Ernest Guenther (* 1895), who wrote numerous works on essential oils . Givaudan has sponsored the award since taking over Fritzsche, Dodge and Olcott in 1990 .
