Ernest Starling.

Ernest Henry Starling (born April 17, 1866 in London , † May 2, 1927 in Kingston - Harbor , Jamaica ) was an English physiologist .

Starling taught at London University College and became a professor there in 1899.

In 1896, Starling set up the Starling equation named after him . In 1905 he introduced the concept of the hormone . Together with Otto Frank , he described the relationship between the filling and ejection capacity of the heart, which is now known as the Frank-Starling mechanism . In 1904 he gave the Croonian Lecture to the Royal Society , in 1905 the Croonian Lectures of the Royal College of Physicians .

In 1913 Starling was awarded the Royal Medal of the Royal Society . In 1925 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
