Ernest de Sélincourt (born September 24, 1870 - May 22, 1943 ) was an English literary scholar . He was Oxford Professor of Poetry from 1928 to 1933 .

Life

Ernest de Sélincourt visited the Dulwich College in London and then studied liberal arts at the University College of Oxford University . From 1899 he taught English language and literature and was appointed professor of English at the University of Birmingham in 1908 , of which he was vice-principal from 1931 to 1935. In 1927 he was elected to the British Academy and from 1928 to 1933 he served as Oxford Professor of Poetry .

He died in 1943; Birmingham University manages his estate.

Works

De Sélincourt made a name for himself as a researcher and editor of the works of John Keats , Edmund Spenser , William Wordsworth and Dorothy Wordsworth .
