Ernie Kovacs

Ernie Kovacs ; actually Ernest Edward Kovacs (born January 23, 1919 in Trenton , New Jersey , † January 13, 1962 in Beverly Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor , comedian and musician .

life and career

Ernie Kovacs was the son of Hungarian immigrants. He graduated from the New York School of Theater and received his first own television show in 1951, entitled Time for Ernie . He then hosted two more programs, Ernie in Kovacsland and The Ernie Kovacs Show , which earned him several Emmy nominations.

He has also appeared in a number of film productions, including My Bride is Psychic with Jack Lemmon and Land of a Thousand Adventures with John Wayne .

As a musician, he composed a number of successful songs that he often used on his television shows.

He has been married twice and has three children. On January 13, 1962, driving home from a party in Beverly Hills , he lost control of his Chevrolet Corvair and hit a concrete pillar. He was instantly dead. He left his second wife, Edie Adams, in high tax debt, which she paid for television appearances and donations from celebrity friends.

Ernie Kovacs was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
