Ernst-Ewald Roth (2016)

Ernst-Ewald Roth (born February 4, 1953 in Montabaur ) is a German politician and theologian. As a member of the SPD , he was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 2008 to 2019 .

Career

Roth grew up in Holler , a municipality in the Westerwald . After graduating from high school in Montabaur in 1974, he studied theology at the Philosophical-Theological University St. Georgen in Frankfurt am Main and at the University of Innsbruck and graduated in 1979 with a diploma.

In December 1980 he received his ordination as a Roman Catholic priest and in the same year took up a position as chaplain in Niedernhausen . In the following years he came to Wiesbaden as a youth pastor through parishes in Frankfurt-Eckenheim (1981/82), Bad Homburg (1982) and Frankfurt-Höchst (1982-1985) . At the same time, he studied social work at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences in 1985 . In 1990, the Limburg bishop Franz Kamphaus appointed him as diocesan youth pastor and head of the youth department in the episcopal ordinariate of the diocese of Limburg . In 1996 he returned to Wiesbaden as city dean and pastor of St. Bonifatius . At the same time he was chairman of the Caritas Association in Wiesbaden, member of the youth welfare committee (1997-2005) and chairman of the Christian Churches Working Group (ACK) (1999-2006).

politics

In 2006 Roth turned to politics and was then suspended from his church offices by the then Bishop of Limburg, Franz Kamphaus . On May 12, 2006, Roth was nominated by the party congress of the Wiesbaden SPD as a non-party candidate for the office of Lord Mayor in the Hessian state capital. However, the candidacy failed prematurely in January 2007 because the city SPD failed to submit the nomination for its candidate to the electoral office on time. In the course of the ensuing internal party restructuring, Roth - who has since joined the party - was elected deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district of Wiesbaden on March 23, 2007 and on June 23, 2007 as a direct candidate for the SPD in constituency 30 (Wiesbaden I) for the 2008 state election nominated. In the election on January 27, 2008, he decided the constituency for himself with 38.9 percent of the vote.

Roth has been married since summer 2008.

In the state elections in 2009 and 2013, Roth was subject to the CDU candidate Astrid Wallmann in the Wiesbaden I constituency , but entered the state parliament via the state list. In the state elections in Hesse in 2018 , he no longer ran and therefore left the state parliament in January 2019.
