Life

Ernst-Günther Zumach attended the Carolinum grammar school in Ansbach. Political activity

The initially non-party criminal lawyer was nominated by the CSU in 1971 as a candidate for mayor election and prevailed relatively narrowly against the SPD candidate, the world champion in field handball Erwin Porzner . Due to numerous incorporations, the population of the city of Ansbach soon increased by more than 10%, so that a new mayor had to be elected as early as 1973. In this, Zumach prevailed (with no opponent) with more than 90%. In the next election, in 1979, he even achieved 95% (again with no opponents). After being re-elected again, Zumach did not run again in 1990, Ralf Felber ( SPD ) succeeded him as Lord Mayor.

Honors

Zumach was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany and an honorary citizen of the city of Ansbach .
