Ernst-Ludwig Freisewinkel (born March 20, 1930 in Bielefeld ; † April 22, 2017 in Cologne ) was a German journalist and television maker .

Life

Freisewinkel already worked as a local reporter while he was still at school. While studying German , journalism , philosophy and theater studies in Münster and Cologne, he wrote for various daily newspapers as well as for feature film publications.

After a traineeship at what was then NWDR Cologne, the Funkhaus employed him as an author and reporter for daily broadcasts, as a film critic and initiator of cultural and entertaining broadcasts on radio. When the station, which has since been renamed WDR , began broadcasting daily television programs in 1958, Freisewinkel was involved from the beginning as the producer and director of the regional programs Here and Today and later Here in Germany - Nowadays . At the same time, he moderated these programs and designed his own series.

From 1962 he moved to the ARD program in such or similar positions . The programs with their own films include around 70 three-quarters of an hour documentaries. They mainly dealt with questions and problems of foreign and security policy. Freisewinkel often reported from crisis and war zones, but also shot adventure reports and entertaining features. From 1983 to 1987 the ARD sent him to the European studio in Brussels as a foreign correspondent . He then worked until his retirement as the first editor in the WDR's current affairs department.

Almost all of the major live broadcasts of the early television years list him as a director. He was also responsible for the German contributions to the first international satellite programs Early Bird and Our World .

Freisewinkel has staged two television games: Übergewicht (1961) and Unscharme (1987).
