Ernst-Otto Luthardt

Ernst-Otto Luthardt (born December 13, 1948 in Steinach , Thuringia , Soviet Occupation Zone ) is a German writer and art historian . He is known as the author of numerous illustrated books , writings on Franconia , Franconian cuisine and Franconian customs, as the editor of anthologies with Christmas stories and in the 1980s as the author of fantastic stories.

Life

Luthardt studied German and history at the University of Jena , where he received his doctorate in 1978 with a thesis on tendencies towards lyricization in German-language prose works of the 20th century . Until 1979 he was a research assistant in Jena and then a freelance writer. He worked as an editor and reviewer for several publishers, as an editor and wrote reviews and afterwords. His first volume with utopian and fantastic stories , which he wrote together with Heiner Hüfner, was published in 1981 by Greifenverlag. This was followed by three more volumes with stories that can mostly be attributed to science fiction . The Lexicon Die Science-Fiction der DDR wrote: "Luthardt's poetic SF texts made him one of the most important GDR authors who came to SF in the eighties."

After the fall of the Wall, Luthardt published three more stories in anthologies and magazines, but then largely turned away from fiction and established himself as an author of illustrated books - he had already published a volume with literary travel reports from Romania in 1987 - most of which were in Würzburg Verlag Stürtz, and books about Franconian cuisine, manners and customs that were published by Echter in Würzburg. In particular, as the author of texts for travel illustrated books on countries and landscapes of Germany and Europe Luthardt was extremely productive - 1990-2020 published more than 80 picture books with texts by Luthardt, also properly literary than two dozen titles, including many in the ranks Small library at Stürtz and Echt Franconian at Echter.

Luthardt lives in Rauhenebrach in Franconia.
