Ernst Öbster (born March 17, 1984 ) is an Austrian football player on the position of midfielder . From July 2019 he will be under contract with SV Friedburg.

Career

Öbster started at SK Bischofshofen in his youth. After joining the BNZ Salzburg, he was brought into the first team of SV Austria Salzburg in 2001 and made his debut in the Bundesliga at the age of seventeen . After two years with Salzburg, he went on loan to the first league at LASK Linz for a year . In 2004 he returned and was able to prevent relegation with Austria. After the takeover of the club by Dietrich Mateschitz and his company Red Bull , Öbster played seven more games in the first season.

In the summer of 2006 he was given to the Red Bull Juniors , where he made 15 appearances for the amateur team in the first division. Internationally, he played eleven times for the Austrian U21 team. He took part in the U-19 European Football Championship in 2003 and reached the semi-finals with the Austrian selection. In the 2008/09 season, Öbster was part of the regular staff at the start of the season, but during the season he was then used very rarely and ultimately only made five appearances. In summer 2009 he moved to the New York Red Bulls , where he terminated his contract in March 2010. For the 2010/11 season he signed with Bundesliga promoted FC Wacker Innsbruck , but only one year later he moved back to Salzburg for SV Grödig for family reasons . In the summer of 2013 Öbster moved back to ASK Linz to move up to the second division with the club.
