Ernst Borlin

Ernst Traugott Börlin (born June 28, 1905 in Langenbruck , † March 10, 1975 in Dürrenast near Thun ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

Life

Börlin grew up in Langenbruck and Pratteln . He completed his studies in Basel and Lausanne and received his doctorate as Dr. iur. From 1928 he had his own law firm in Pratteln and in 1930 he was the cantonal secretary for the poor. From 1933 to 1950 he was editor of the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung .

Börlin is the founder and president of the popular movement for the preservation of the independent half-canton of Basel-Landschaft in the 1930s. From 1944 to 1950 he was for the FDP in the district administrator . He was on the government council from 1950 to 1967 and was responsible for education, from 1953 for finances. He was President of the Government Council in 1953/1954, 1958/1959, 1962/1963 and 1966/1967.

In the boom of the 1950s and early 1960s, Börlin adapted the canton's expenditure to income. From 1943 to 1963 he was a member of the National Council . He is a specialist in foreign and financial policy and was President of the Swiss Delegation of the Interparliamentary Union and the Swiss Commission for UNESCO . In the last years of his life he worked again as a journalist .
