Ernst Balluf

Ernst Balluf (born September 2, 1921 in Linz , Upper Austria ; † April 20, 2008 there ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

Ernst Balluf studied painting and graphics with Paul Ikrath at the arts and crafts department of the higher trade school in Linz. His focus was on nature and landscape painting . He himself named William Turner and Emil Nolde as role models . He also worked as a cartoonist and illustrator for various newspapers . His work includes drawings , lithographs and especially watercolors .

With his coloring and concentration on the essentials of the graphic lines he always achieved a certain degree of abstraction. "There is no such thing as abstract art, you always have to start something, after which you can remove all traces of the real as you wish," is how he himself described his way of working.

Since 1965 he has been represented with over 100 solo exhibitions inside and outside Austria. In addition, he took part in numerous international art events. He was a member of the Mühlviertel Artists' Guild, which was renamed the Zülow Group in 2001 .

The Upper Austrian died of heart failure in April 2008 at the age of 86 after a walk .
