Ernst Dietrich Wilhelm Ahrens Basch , also Ernst Dieterich Wilhelm Ahrens Basch (born November 21, 1838 in Bovenden ; † January 28, 1908 ) was a German magician and entrepreneur.

Life

Ernst Basch belonged to a family of magicians and showmen. His father was Hirsch Basch, his mother Johanne Wilhelmine Ahrens. He was married from 1861 to Friederike Antoinette Caroline Louise Nitzky. His brothers Friedrich Josef (often called Wilhelm, 1833–1877) and Heinrich (1841–1876), like Ernst Basch himself, went on tour with magic demonstrations and illusions. Among other things, Basch showed ghosts and ghosts by means of the magic lantern , apparently at a performance in November 1877 in East Friesland , but also fairytale scenes such as Snow White and The Tale of the Stork . Ernst Basch apparently worked for a time with Albert Mullens and the Cagliostro Theater , but for a time also had his own travel theater that could seat 1,600 people. His assistant was Paul Valadon . In 1887 he gave up traveling.

Ernst Basch founded a company in Hanover and thereby became one of the leading manufacturers and sellers of magic apparatus in Germany. Ernst Basch, Hanover existed after Basch's death and was taken over by Reinhold Pfalz from Leipzig in 1918 . It is possible that Hermann Mehl was the owner of the business between 1908 and 1918 .

Ernst Basch's customers included Carl Rudolf Bernadotte Nordenstam , for example .
