Ernst Christoph (East Frisia)

Ernst Christoph ( April 1, 1606 - December 31, 1640 ) came from the House of Cirksena and was Count of Rietberg from 1625 to 1640 .

Life

Ernst Christoph was the fourth of eleven children of Johann III. and Sabina Catharina were born. Since his older brother Edzard died as a toddler, he was heir to the county from birth.

Shortly before the death of his father Johann III. Ernst Christoph promised to finally build a Franciscan monastery in Rietberg. The father died in 1625 and Ernst Christoph took over the county. On November 10, 1626 he married Albertine Maria Marquise de St. Martin. The marriage had remained childless. On January 6, 1629, he founded the Rietberg monastery in a document . In the same year the church could be consecrated. He had the remains of his parents transferred to the crypt under the church.

In 1631 Ernst Christoph was appointed riding colonel and later vice field marshal. On March 8, 1634 he was appointed imperial sergeant general. He died on December 31, 1640 and was also buried in the crypt of the Franciscan church. His widow married Charles de la Baume ( La Baume-Montrevel ). The brother Ernst Christopher, Canon Ferdinand Franz von Rietberg , moved in 1645 before the Imperial Court . He wanted to cancel donations to Albertine that his brother had made during his lifetime.
