A marriage contract was signed on March 3, 1601, and the following day Abbot Leonhard Ruben von Abdinghof concluded the Tridentine rite in the Rietberg Castle Chapel. Before the wedding, the couple converted to Catholicism and reintroduced it into the county.

In 1618 the couple laid the foundation stone for the Franciscan monastery in Rietberg. In 1629 the foundation charter of the monastery was issued.
