Ernst Deuerlein

Ernst Deuerlein (born September 9, 1918 in Rückersdorf (Middle Franconia) , † November 26, 1971 in Munich ) was a senior Bavarian civil servant and historian .

Life

After graduating from Melanchthon Gymnasium in Nuremberg in 1939 , Deuerlein studied history, German and philosophy at universities in Nuremberg, Erlangen, Vienna and Munich. During the Second World War he was a soldier and lost a leg on the Eastern Front in 1942.

Deuerlein received his doctorate in 1947 with an unprinted thesis on the Catholic clergy in the first German National Assembly in 1848/49 at the University of Munich. In the same year he joined the Bavarian State Youth Welfare Office and in 1949 moved to the Bavarian State Chancellery . There he became Prime Minister Hans Ehard's most important speechwriter as a member of the press office . From 1959 to 1961 he was editor of the documents on Germany policy .

In 1961 Deuerlein was appointed professor of history at the Philosophical-Theological University in Dillingen , from 1966 to 1969 he worked at the University of Erlangen and finally from 1970 until his death at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich . Deuerlein mainly dealt with recent German history and Bavarian national history .
